MICHELLE VISUALS
the reason I keep on shifting (virtually) is that I don’t feel like I have found where I belong. I guess it is a good thing that I am always in motion opposed to being stagnant?
focus on the journey, not the destination. focus on the journey…
and taking photos has been one of the most enjoyable journeys I have taken. it’s one way I converse with…myself. avidly doing what I do since 2006 but not all I find from the viewfinder ends up on this thing called Photostream.

Education is a fundamental human right, a video by Michelle Chan.

—–
When I was in college (Canadian Pre-University, CPU) in 2009/2010, I signed up for a social community project which enabled students to teach English, Mathematics and Science of Grade 1-8 to children in the Somalian Refugees Education Centre (ran by Deborah Henry). Being in direct communication with people whose existentialism is questioned inspires me. Not only do they not have access to their human rights, Malaysia’s domestic laws do not explicitly protect the rights of both asylum seekers and refugees.

Mouth & Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) MY
—–
Mouth & Foot Painting Artists Sdn Bhd (MFPA), a non-charitable organisation (meaning it does not accept donations), has survived since 1974. Their member artists paint with their mouth or foot. Despite their disabilities, they demonstrate incredible dexterity and produce amazing paintings for commercial sale. Their works are also reproduced on greeting cards and sold to individuals and companies. It is very inspiring watching them work.
The parent association was founded in 1956 in Switzerland. Professor AE Stegmann, a mouth painter himself who had suffered from spinal poliomyelitis was the founder and first president. MFPA is owned and managed by the local association’s member artists.
Artists are graded according to categories to encourage them to continuously develop their skills. There is a full member, followed by associate and then student category. Each artist receives a monthly stipend depending on their seniority. There are nine artists under MFPA’s care. Some artists suffer cerebral palsy, or their hands were deformed but it does not prevent them from applying their skills and talent. (read more)
